Melio, a fast-growing B2B payments platform, is seeking a Senior Accountant to join their NYC-based team in a hybrid role (3 days in-office). This is a hands-on position at the intersection of client service and AI-powered innovation in bookkeeping.
You will support day-to-day bookkeeping operations for a portfolio of US-based Xero accounting partners and small business clients, ensuring accurate, reliable, and timely financial work. You'll serve as a trusted point of contact for accountants and clients, maintaining responsive and clear communication throughout all interactions.
A core part of this role involves testing, evaluating, and refining AI-powered tools to enhance bookkeeping workflows. You'll document learnings, workflows, and best practices so other bookkeepers can adopt and scale what you've built. You'll partner closely with US leadership to shape how AI-powered bookkeeping serves small businesses, helping to define modern standards in the industry.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing core bookkeeping workflows: reconciliation, AP/AR, month-end close, and financial reporting
- Using AI tools daily to deliver faster, higher-quality service
- Testing and providing feedback on AI tool effectiveness and efficiency gains
- Documenting processes and best practices for team-wide adoption
- Serving as a subject matter expert for accounting partners and clients
You should have proven experience in accounting and bookkeeping for small businesses, solid command of modern accounting software (Xero preferred), and genuine enthusiasm for AI tools. Client-facing experience and CPA certification are strong pluses. You thrive in fast-moving environments, take pride in clean books, and are energized by finding better, faster, smarter ways to work. Strong communication and documentation skills are essential.
Melio offers competitive compensation ($120,000–$145,000 annually), comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision with up to 100% employer-paid coverage, 401(k) matching, wellness programs, generous time off, and a collaborative, dog-friendly office culture in NYC.
