Genesis Molecular AI is a biotechnology company pioneering AI-driven drug discovery and development. The company combines breakthrough deep learning technology with biophysical simulation and extensive biotech/pharma expertise to discover and develop novel small molecule drugs.
The Senior Accountant will join the finance team in San Diego, reporting directly to the Assistant Controller. This role is central to building and managing the company's accounting and operations functions.
Key responsibilities include:
- General ledger management and month/quarter/year-end close processes, including preparation of journal entries for accruals, depreciation, prepaid expense amortization, and other close-related items
- Account reconciliations (cash, prepaid accounts, fixed assets, liabilities, equity) with analysis of balances and variance investigation
- Revenue recognition schedule maintenance
- Accounts payable support, including invoice review for proper GL coding and posting dates
- Preparation of use tax and property tax returns
- Active participation in annual financial audit, including auditor interaction and schedule preparation
- Assistance with annual financial statements and related disclosures
- Support for annual tax return preparation and investor information requests
- 401(k) audit assistance and special projects as assigned
The ideal candidate will have strong accounting fundamentals, excellent communication skills, and the ability to proactively identify and resolve accounting issues. Biotech experience is valued given the company's industry focus.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field (required)
- CPA certification (preferred)
- 3+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Biotech company experience (preferred but not required)
- Strong knowledge and understanding of U.S. GAAP
- Strong judgment, integrity, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to communicate effectively across departments and organizational levels
- Proactive problem-solving mindset
