Boulder Care, a Series C behavioral health company, seeks a Senior Accountant to manage critical accounting functions supporting financial operations and regulatory compliance. This individual contributor role owns payroll accounting, state tax compliance, revenue recognition, and grant accounting, while serving as co-owner of the general ledger and month-end close process alongside the Controller.
Key responsibilities include managing bi-weekly payroll in partnership with HR and payroll providers, ensuring accuracy and timely tax filings across multiple states. You will prepare monthly revenue recognition calculations under U.S. GAAP (ASC 606), reconcile revenue accounts, and collaborate with Operations and FP&A teams. Grant accounting duties involve tracking expenditures, preparing reimbursement requests, and ensuring compliance with grant agreements.
As general ledger co-owner, you will prepare and review journal entries, perform monthly reconciliations, maintain supporting documentation, and assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes. You will also support annual audits, tax return preparation, and identify opportunities to automate and improve accounting processes.
The ideal candidate has 5+ years of progressive accounting experience with strong U.S. GAAP knowledge, payroll accounting expertise, multi-state tax compliance experience, and revenue recognition principles. Advanced Excel skills, analytical mindset, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment are essential. A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, experience with grant accounting, healthcare/behavioral health background, ERP systems (NetSuite, Sage Intacct), and familiarity with outsourced payroll providers (ADP, Rippling, Gusto) are valued. No supervisory responsibilities.
