HotSpot Therapeutics is a drug discovery company using a proprietary platform to identify and exploit regulatory hotspots—allosteric sites that control protein function—enabling the development of selective small-molecule therapeutics for previously undruggable targets.
You will join the Immunology Team as a hands-on scientist responsible for designing and executing cellular immunology studies that advance discovery-stage programs. This is a lab-based role requiring strong technical expertise and scientific independence.
Key responsibilities include:
- Perform experiments using primary human immune cells: isolation, culture, stimulation, phenotypic characterization, and functional assessment
- Design and execute multiparameter flow cytometry experiments to evaluate immune cell phenotype, activation, signaling, and function
- Design and execute concentration-response studies to characterize compound activity, potency, mechanism of action, and pharmacodynamic effects
- Independently troubleshoot experimental and technical challenges with minimal supervision
- Generate, analyze, interpret, and communicate data to multidisciplinary teams; maintain detailed records ensuring scientific rigor and reproducibility
- Support generation of samples for downstream genomic and transcriptional profiling
- Evaluate emerging therapeutic targets by assessing published literature, disease relevance, genetic evidence, and biological rationale; contribute to hypothesis development and experimental strategies
- Collaborate with scientists across biology, chemistry, translational sciences, and other functions to advance research programs
Required qualifications:
- PhD in Immunology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or related discipline with 2+ years of relevant small-molecule drug discovery experience (industry or postdoctoral + industry); OR BS/MS in Immunology or related field with 4–8 years of relevant industry experience and demonstrated scientific independence
- Strong hands-on expertise with primary human immune cells
- Demonstrated expertise in multiparameter flow cytometry: experimental design, execution, data analysis, interpretation
- Experience developing, optimizing, and troubleshooting cellular immunology assays
- Core competency in immunology and molecular biology techniques: cell culture, cytokine measurement, western blotting, qPCR
- Experience evaluating pharmacologic perturbations in cellular systems and characterizing concentration-response relationships
- Demonstrated ability to independently design experiments, interpret results, troubleshoot challenges, and propose follow-up studies
- Strong scientific judgment and critical literature assessment skills
- Preferred: experience with cell engineering and functional genomics (stable cell line generation, viral/non-viral gene delivery, gene knockdown/knockout), especially in primary immune cells
- Excellent organizational, communication, data analysis, and presentation skills
- Ability to thrive in collaborative, fast-paced research environment
