Altos Labs is seeking a neuroscientist with deep expertise in neurodegeneration to join the Bay Area Discovery Science center. The mission is to restore cell health and resilience through cell rejuvenation to reverse disease, injury, and disabilities. In this role, you will act as the scientific lead for a key segment of the neurodegeneration portfolio, shaping critical research questions and driving studies to actionable conclusions. You will design and execute in vivo studies using rodent models of neurodegeneration, strategically selecting models, timepoints, and endpoints tailored to specific biological questions and program stages. Key responsibilities include processing and analyzing both rodent and human brain tissue (dissection, regional sampling, fixation, cryopreservation, sectioning, and comprehensive downstream characterization), developing and applying precise quantitative readouts for pathology and disease biology (protein aggregation, neuroinflammation, cell loss, vascular integrity), and collaborating across disciplines with in vivo pharmacology, histology, molecular biology, computational, and program management teams. You will champion scientific rigor by establishing and promoting the highest technical and cultural standards, embedding foundational practices such as experimental rigor, blinding, randomization, data provenance, and reproducibility. You will actively contribute to program strategy and high-level decision-making, providing critical input on go/no-go recommendations and flagging risks early and candidly. Additional responsibilities include maintaining rigorous, traceable records and structured data capture, staying current with the latest neurodegeneration literature, and proactively bringing relevant external developments to bear on internal research programs. Minimum qualifications: Ph.D. in Neuroscience or related field with 1+ years of post-doctoral or industry research experience focused on neurodegeneration. You must have robust understanding of neurodegenerative disease biology, an established publication record, extensive practical experience processing and analyzing rodent and human brain tissue, and hands-on expertise with in vivo models and imaging techniques.
