Octopus Energy Services France (OESF) is the services arm of Octopus Energy France, a green energy provider. OESF develops and installs residential electrification solutions: solar panels, battery storage, and EV charging stations. Founded three years ago, the company is in rapid scale-up mode with 50+ employees and a 20-person sales team, with ambitious growth plans ahead.
You will lead the commercial organization as Sales Manager, responsible for end-to-end sales performance across solar installations (with/without batteries), standalone batteries, and EV chargers. The role is managerial, operational, and entrepreneurial—advancing teams, continuously improving the sales model, and building processes and tools for growth.
The sales organization operates on a Business Developer / Technical Sales pairing model: 15 inside sales reps (split between Paris and Lille offices, managed by 2 Team Leaders) handle lead qualification, solar assessments, and remote closing; 3 field technical sales reps (managed by 1 Team Leader) conduct on-site technical validation and active sales support. You will directly manage these 3 Team Leaders plus a marketing team, based in Paris with regular travel to Lille.
Key responsibilities include:
**Team Leadership & Development:**
- Manage and coach your 3 direct reports in daily team operations
- Stay close to the field: listen to calls, analyze meetings, understand customer objections
- Build a strong coaching culture and continuous improvement mindset; advance teams on inside sales techniques, product knowledge, and tools
- Anticipate hiring needs, actively recruit, and ensure quality onboarding
- Monitor individual performance, support struggling team members with clear goals, and make necessary management decisions
- Foster engagement and retain top talent
**Commercial Performance & Unit Economics:**
- Own unit economics: sales volume, average deal size, customer acquisition cost per installation
- Manage the sales funnel and conversion rates at each stage; build reliable forecasts
- Optimize acquisition cost levers: conversion, team productivity, sales journey design, team sizing
- Analyze performance and rapidly deploy action plans
**Sales Model Development:**
- Co-author the sales model, not just execute it; the model is not fixed and your input is strategic
- Create, test, and deploy new sales processes with a test-and-learn approach
- Identify friction points and improvement opportunities across the customer journey
- Collaborate closely with Engineering, Field Operations, and Tech/RevOps to align commercial processes with operational constraints
- Drive adoption of tools, automation, and AI to boost productivity and sales quality
Key KPIs: sales volume/revenue, average deal size, customer acquisition cost per installation, lead-to-sale conversion rate, funnel conversion rates at each stage, sales forecast reliability.
**Requirements:**
- Proven experience in high-volume B2C inside sales (solar experience not required)
- Strong requirement: prior experience as a manager of managers
- Passion for sales, coaching, and performance analysis
- Demanding yet human management style; comfortable with performance evaluation, direct constructive feedback, and making tough people decisions
- Entrepreneurial, curious, highly operational mindset; comfortable in a still-evolving environment
- Comfortable challenging and creating new processes, testing approaches, measuring effectiveness, and iterating
- Strong appetite for tools, data, automation, and AI as levers for commercial performance
