The Risk Manager (ESG) role sits within the second line of defence, responsible for identifying and quantifying environmental, social, and governance risks across all functions, products, and regions. This is a specialized risk management position focused on ESG and climate-related exposures in a fast-growing financial services organization.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and maintaining ESG risk management frameworks, policies, and procedures
- Setting risk appetite standards, balance sheet management guidelines, and impact assessments for ESG regulatory changes
- Building stress testing capabilities, analytics infrastructure, and reporting systems for ESG risks
- Engaging with first-line business units to identify, monitor, and govern emerging ESG risks, including new product assessments
- Modelling ESG risks under climate stress scenarios with appropriate assumptions and calibrations
- Monitoring ESG risk exposures against established limits, investigating risk events, and producing management information reports
- Escalating risk breaches to appropriate committees and establishing relationships with senior stakeholders to enforce frameworks
Required qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in ESG or climate risk management
- Deep expertise in ESG risk issues, methodologies, and climate risk stress testing implementation
- Understanding of global financial markets, products, and their linkages to ESG/climate factors
- Knowledge of ESG-related regulations and their application in financial services
- Familiarity with stress testing methodologies and model development/governance
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to break down complex issues
- Comfort working with data and analytics
- Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and drive organizational change
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Nice-to-have: SQL or other scripting language experience.
