Pie Insurance is transforming commercial insurance for small businesses through technology and data-driven underwriting. As a Renewals Underwriter I, you will review and analyze existing policies for renewal, focusing on second and third-year renewals and smaller accounts. You'll determine pricing and coverage terms using Pie's underwriting guidelines, verify premium accuracy, and process midterm change requests including endorsements and rate testing. Key responsibilities include reviewing individual risks within your level of authority, gathering and consolidating information from third-party services, checking information accuracy, and making underwriting decisions based on risk exposures and loss frequency/severity data. You'll build and maintain customer relationships, prioritize and resolve customer inquiries, and provide technical assistance to cross-functional teams on policy provisions and underwriting acceptability. You'll work closely with Renewal Underwriter II colleagues, maintain strong industry knowledge on workers' compensation underwriting, and develop expertise in forms, coverage ratings, and manuals for your assigned line. Required qualifications include 2+ years of insurance experience in customer service, audit, underwriting, or sales roles, plus a minimum of one year in commercial lines (workers' compensation or P&C preferred). You must have experience verifying businesses using web-based research tools like OSHA and SAFER. Experience with Insurity and Salesforce is preferred. You'll need strong attention to detail, ability to manage high-volume transactions, solid communication skills, and comfort with internal chat platforms like Slack or Teams. A collaborative mindset and desire to improve insurance operations in a technology-driven environment are essential.
