The Legal team at Revolut partners across the organization to provide practical legal advice that enables fast business growth while maintaining compliance and protection. This Regulatory Counsel role is a hands-on position focused on South African legal and regulatory matters.
Key responsibilities include:
- Advising the business on South African legal and regulatory requirements across payments, banking, and financial services products
- Providing legal support on structuring new and existing products in alignment with applicable laws and regulatory frameworks
- Drafting and reviewing customer-facing legal documentation, including terms and conditions, disclosures, and agreements
- Supporting interpretation and application of local regulatory frameworks (banking, financial services, financial crime, consumer protection, data privacy)
- Contributing to regulatory deliverables and internal submissions in collaboration with Compliance and Regulatory Affairs teams
- Developing and maintaining legal and governance frameworks, policies, procedures, and internal standards
- Supporting board and committee governance processes, including preparation of materials and resolutions
- Drafting and reviewing commercial agreements, including third-party and intragroup arrangements
- Working cross-functionally with Risk, Product, and Operations teams to embed legal requirements into business processes and product design
- Providing practical, solution-oriented legal advice in a fast-moving environment
This is a build-focused role requiring comfort with fast-paced environments, evolving structures, and ambiguous situations. The successful candidate will work independently, take ownership, and translate complex legislation into practical business advice.
REQUIREMENTS:
- LLB or equivalent law degree
- 5+ years of post-qualification experience (PQE) in a legal role within financial services, banking, fintech, or reputable law firm
- Expertise in South African legal and regulatory frameworks, including financial services, consumer protection, and data privacy
- Experience in legal drafting (contracts, policies, customer documentation)
- Ability to interpret legislation and translate into practical, business-friendly advice
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and take ownership in a fast-paced environment
NICE TO HAVE:
- Admission as an attorney or advocate in South Africa
- Experience in payments, fintech, or digital banking
- Exposure to cross-border legal or regulatory frameworks
- Familiarity with crypto-asset or emerging financial product regulation
- Experience in lean or high-growth organizations
