Zen Educate is a fast-growing edtech marketplace that helps UK schools find, vet, and manage temporary educators through a digital platform. Schools currently spend over £2bn annually on agency staff; Zen provides full control over hiring, booking, and compliance in real time.
As Regional Director for the South West (Exeter/Truro), you will lead a high-performing team and drive the next phase of growth in your region. You'll report to central leadership and own both commercial results and team development.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead and coach a team of managers and individual contributors, setting high performance standards and developing them into their best selves.
- Become an expert in customer pain points and how Zen's platform solves them; use this insight to inform team standards and strategy.
- Identify the biggest growth opportunities within your region and develop and execute plans to pursue them.
- Build playbooks and operating procedures that balance customer experience with operational efficiency.
- Align strategy and process with central functions while rolling out regional initiatives.
- Think strategically about three-year transformation of the region, not incremental improvements.
You'll take over from a successful leader who is progressing within the company. The company operates across the UK, US, and Canada with 500+ employees, strong unit economics, and is well-funded.
Desired traits and approach:
- Proven track record building and leading teams, not just hitting targets.
- Process-led and hyper-structured; you plan meticulously and build systems rather than relying on individual heroics.
- Passionate about education and making real-world impact on the education system.
- Comfortable with first-principles reasoning; you experiment and iterate rather than simply replicating best practices.
- Ability to find simple answers to complex problems and out-maneuver competition.
- Comfortable aligning teams across functions.
The company values high-trajectory individuals with passion over initial pedigree, and invests in upskilling colleagues from non-traditional backgrounds. Culture emphasizes "we care more" and mission-driven work.
Requirements: Not explicitly stated in posting. Implied expectations include proven people-management experience at scale, commercial leadership track record, and demonstrated ability to build systems and processes.
