Urban Sky is a venture-backed aerospace startup pioneering routine access to the stratosphere through stratospheric balloon systems. The company designs, builds, operates, and sells these systems for applications ranging from real-time wildfire monitoring to urban mapping. Urban Sky works with government customers including NASA and the Department of War, launching flight vehicles to the stratosphere on a weekly basis.
The Quality Manager will lead quality assurance and compliance efforts at the new Texas location. This role is responsible for planning, developing, implementing, and maintaining the organization's Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure compliance with corporate quality policies, industry standards (AS9100, ISO 9001, FAA, EASA), regulatory requirements, and customer expectations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and maintaining compliance with AS9100, ISO 9001, FAA, EASA, and applicable internal, customer, and regulatory requirements
- Developing, implementing, and continuously improving the Quality Management System (QMS)
- Managing internal, customer, supplier, and regulatory audits, including corrective and preventive actions
- Managing the Metrology Lab and calibration schedules with strong understanding of flexible material testing
- Directing and managing quality control technicians
- Serving as an Operational Review Board (ORB) managing member
- Ensuring quality planning and risk management throughout the product lifecycle (APQP, FMEA, control plans)
- Participating in nonconformance management, root cause analysis, and corrective action processes
- Collaborating cross-functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Program Management, and leadership to ensure quality objectives are met
This is a full-time, on-site position at the Texas location. The ideal candidate will have experience with aerospace quality systems, regulatory compliance, and team leadership in a manufacturing or production environment.
