Salary: USD 90,000 - 115,000 / annual
BurnBot is a climate-tech company providing systematic fuels treatment services to prevent destructive wildfires using modern, clean, smoke-free processes. The company combines firefighters, scientists, engineers, prescribed fire practitioners, and ecologists to scale fuel treatment capacity and treat fuel loads 10x faster than previously possible.
You will lead a complex, place-based project in Tuolumne County managing the Community Wildfire Defense Grant (CWDG) project in the Columbia/Yankee Hill and Cedar Ridge communities. This is a hands-on, field-forward role with approximately 70–80% time spent on project sites, regional hubs, or traveling, and 20–30% remote or office-based work depending on project phase.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing the CWDG project from award through closeout, coordinating between multiple stakeholders with tight governance requirements (ANSI A300)
- Reviewing parcel prescriptions for feasibility and contract compliance
- Developing detailed project plans, schedules, resources, and budgets
- Serving as the day-to-day point of contact with agency partners, clients, and subcontractors
- Tracking quality control and contract compliance for BurnBot operations and all subcontractors
- Attending public meetings and representing BurnBot/client as needed
- Maintaining regular field presence to support crews, verify work quality, and adapt plans
- Managing project budgets and tracking expenditures
- Ensuring OSHA compliance and BurnBot safety standards
- Developing and coaching Project Coordinators where applicable
- Adapting to fast-changing environments and work priorities
This role manages people (Project Coordinator development and direction) and requires strong organizational skills, forestry operations knowledge, and interagency coordination experience.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in project or field management in forestry, fuels reduction, wildland fire (suppression or prevention), or related field
- Valid driver's license and ability to be insured under company policy
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, preferably in Forestry, Natural Resources, Ecological Restoration, or similar technical discipline
- Familiarity with ANSI A300 requirements
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Google Suite, and virtual meeting platforms (Zoom/Teams)
- Physical ability to lift, push, and pull weights up to 50 lbs regularly; ability to bend, twist, lift, reach, grasp, and climb various surfaces and heights for 8+ hours per day
- Ability to work outdoors in conditions typical of forestry, fuels reduction, and prescribed fire operations including uneven terrain, variable weather, smoke, dust, noise, and heavy equipment environments
- Passion for BurnBot's mission to reduce catastrophic wildfire risk
Desirable qualifications:
- PMP Certification, Registered Professional Forester (RPF), Licensed Timber Operator (LTO) A or B, Incident Commander (NWCG), or Crewboss (NWCG)
- ArcGIS proficiency
- Direct experience with government or agency contract structures, scope documentation, and compliance requirements
- Experience with wildland firefighting, prescribed fire, forestry, or construction
