ONI is seeking a Product Marketer for its Biodiscovery portfolio to drive positioning, messaging, and go-to-market strategy for the Nanoimager and Aplo Platform—advanced imaging systems for cellular and molecular-level scientific discovery.
In this science-forward individual-contributor role, you will own the complete product marketing and product management function for biodiscovery applications. Your primary audience is expert researchers: principal investigators, key opinion leaders (KOLs), core facility directors, and discovery scientists in biopharma. You will translate complex imaging science into compelling narratives that resonate with this audience, differentiate ONI's super-resolution platform against confocal, electron microscopy, and competing modalities, and drive the product roadmap based on deep market understanding.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop and own positioning and messaging for biodiscovery applications (receptor clustering, protein–protein colocalization, molecular counting, cytoskeletal architecture, membrane nanodomains, etc.), grounded in real biological questions rather than technical specifications.
- Create application notes, webinars, conference materials, and case studies; amplify customer publications demonstrating the platform in real-world use.
- Conduct competitive intelligence and positioning analysis against adjacent imaging modalities, articulating ONI's advantages in resolution, workflow, and biological richness while being honest about limitations.
- Drive sales enablement through messaging frameworks, battle cards, demo narratives, and training to enable the commercial team to engage credibly with skeptical researchers.
- Partner with customer-facing teams to capture voice-of-customer insights, understand unmet scientific needs, and translate them into product requirements for future capabilities and workflows.
- Contribute to roadmap and requirements definition alongside R&D, documenting market needs and use cases specific to the biodiscovery segment.
- Lead launch planning for new capabilities and applications, from narrative development through enablement and measurement.
- Serve as an internal advocate for the discovery market, representing its distinct needs and differences from the bioprocessing/QC side of the business.
The role is based in the San Diego office with approximately 20% travel to customer sites, conferences, and KOL visits.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Life-science background, ideally in imaging, cell biology, or biophysics, with sufficient depth to earn credibility with expert researchers.
- MSc/PhD or equivalent hands-on research experience (strongly preferred).
- Experience in product marketing, scientific marketing, product management, or field applications in life-science tools or instrumentation, or demonstrated ability to transition from bench research into these roles.
- Ability to translate dense technical capability into clear, compelling narratives for technical audiences without oversimplification.
- Ability to convert complex customer feedback into clear, actionable product requirements.
- Ability to work effectively across teams in a fast-moving environment and prioritize competing demands.
- Strong written communication skills.
- Data-driven and evidence-based approach to claims and product decisions.
NICE TO HAVE:
- Direct experience with super-resolution or single-molecule imaging techniques (dSTORM, PALM, DNA-PAINT).
- Established network in academic or biopharma imaging communities.
- Experience amplifying customer publications or managing KOL programs.
- Prior experience owning a roadmap or defining product requirements for life-science tools or instruments.
