Halter is a venture-backed agtech company transforming livestock grazing through virtual fencing technology. The company enables farmers and ranchers to manage cattle using GPS-guided collars instead of traditional fences, quad bikes, and dogs. Halter's platform guides over 1.5 million cattle daily and is expanding across New Zealand, Australia, the US, and South America.
You will join the Virtual Fencing team as a Product Manager focused on mapping—the digital foundation of Halter's system. Before cattle can be guided, farms and ranches must be mapped with precise locations of fence lines, gates, water troughs, and other infrastructure. This role sits at the intersection of technology and farming, requiring you to deeply understand both the product architecture and farmer needs.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning the mapping product end-to-end: farmer-facing tools, internal mapping team tools, imagery, and accuracy standards
- Regularly visiting farms to understand farmer workflows and how Halter integrates into their operations
- Collaborating with the internal mapping team to identify friction points and improvement opportunities
- Translating farmer needs into product requirements and prioritizing features based on farm impact and scalability
- Working closely with engineers and designers to ship features and ensure successful adoption
- Making detailed decisions for a complex product used in demanding, real-world environments
This is a high-impact role in a fast-growing, well-funded company backed by Tier 1 investors including Founders Fund, Bessemer Venture Partners, DCVC, and others. You'll work in a culture emphasizing autonomy, mastery, and solving hard problems that genuinely matter.
Requirements:
- Top-notch critical thinking skills and ability to break down complex problems into simple solutions
- High curiosity and hunger to become an expert in virtual fencing and the underlying technology
- Comfort working at a fast pace with loose requirements and navigating uncertainty
- Ability to clearly communicate concepts and decisions to engineers, farmers, and cross-functional teams
- Attention to detail, especially for complex products in demanding environments
- Prior Product Management experience is not required, but strong problem-solving ability is essential
- Passion for agriculture and willingness to spend time on farms
