Speak is an AI-powered language learning platform that has achieved product-market fit in over 40 countries and raised over $150M from top-tier investors including OpenAI, Accel, and Founders Fund. The company operates offices in San Francisco, Ljubljana, Seoul, Tokyo, and Taipei, serving learners across 15+ languages. You will own the product strategy and roadmap for learning outcomes and proficiency—a critical gap in Speak's current offering. Today, Speak captures many signals of learner progress (assessments, practice, mistakes, learning activity, longitudinal capability changes), but these signals do not yet form a coherent picture. Your mission is to turn these signals into a product that helps learners understand where they are, whether they are improving, and what to do next. For B2B customers using Speak, the same work should provide credible evidence that their learners are making measurable progress. This is a hands-on senior individual contributor role. You will work across Product, Engineering, Analytics, Learning, Design, and the B2B team, but your job is not to coordinate—it is to learn the problem deeply, make product choices, and ship. Key responsibilities: - Own product strategy and roadmap for learning outcomes and proficiency - Conduct direct research with learners and B2B customers to understand how they currently judge progress and where the experience fails them - Evaluate which signals of proficiency and progress are trustworthy enough to drive product decisions - Ship improvements in assessment, progress, and feedback that help learners understand their position and next steps - Connect measurement back to the learning experience so insights about a learner inform Speak's personalized approach - Define practical quality bars for accuracy, trust, transparency, and actionability - Partner with Engineering, Analytics, Learning, and Design to translate ambiguous evidence into focused product decisions and measured releases Requirements: Must-have: - Strong product judgment in ambiguous, 0→1 problems: ability to identify what matters, narrow scope, and articulate what you would learn next - Experience combining user research and product data to make consequential product decisions - Systems thinking: ability to understand how user experience, data, models, workflows, and technical constraints fit together without losing sight of the user problem - Track record of shipping products with measurable user or business outcomes - Clear written and verbal communication Nice-to-have: - Experience with B2B products where buyer, admin, and end user have different needs - Experience with measurement-heavy products, personalization, health, education, or other outcomes-oriented systems - Interest in language learning or learning science - Note: Prior experience with proficiency, psychometrics, assessments, or education is not required
