Materialize is a context engine for AI agents and applications that enables engineering teams to use SQL to transform operational data into real-time, trustworthy business views. The company is trusted by General Mills, Bilt Rewards, and Crane Worldwide Logistics.
As Product Manager for Developer Experience, you will own the entire developer journey from first signup to production, driving Materialize's product-led sales motion. This is a highly technical individual contributor role with significant scope and growth potential.
Key responsibilities include:
- Define and execute strategy for your product area, collaborating with engineering, product, and go-to-market teams
- Own all developer-facing surfaces: agent skills, MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers, orchestration tools, console, and documentation
- Manage the onboarding funnel end-to-end: define success metrics, instrument them, monitor performance, and let data drive roadmap decisions
- Establish developer experience standards for other product managers (e.g., error message quality)
- Partner with Field Engineering on demos and launch enablement, and with Marketing on developer storytelling
- Conduct direct customer conversations and run demos that drive adoption
- Become the authoritative expert on your product area through market research, customer engagement, and hands-on product use
You will work directly with engineering, field engineering, and marketing teams. Rather than writing documents, you will build working demos. This is a rare opportunity to help create a new category of software infrastructure.
The role is based in the NYC office (Astor Place) with an expectation of 3 days per week in person.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 3+ years as a product manager or founder, with an entrepreneurial mindset
- Prior experience building developer tools (ideally multiple times) with public-facing developer documentation for shipped features
- Strong taste in developer experience with instincts to guide decisions
- Direct customer-facing experience where feedback directly influenced product decisions
- Excellent technical communication skills, including ability to discuss architecture with customer engineers
- Track record of owning outcomes in unstructured environments where you set priorities
- Comfort with AI-native workflows; preference for building working demos over writing documents
- Nice to have: 2+ years of software engineering or site reliability engineering experience
- Alternative consideration: candidates from developer relations or developer experience engineering backgrounds who demonstrate strong taste, even with less formal PM experience
