Gusto is building the financial operating system for small businesses. The Business Money team is launching SMB Banking—business checking accounts that serve as the foundation for how small business owners manage payroll, pay bills, control cash, and eventually access capital. This is a ground-floor product role: the offering is early, moving toward first beta, and you will help take it from initial launch through scale. You will own core workstreams spanning small business banking, including application and identity verification, account linking, funding, payments, cards, and ongoing servicing. You'll own growth and adoption end-to-end—from acquisition through funded, active accounts—and run continuous experimentation across the funnel. As a true owner, you'll take responsibility for business outcomes of your workstream. Key responsibilities include: - Own and deliver core banking workstreams (application, identity, account linking, funding, payments, cards, servicing) - Drive growth and adoption end-to-end with continuous experimentation - Become the fintech infrastructure and payments expert who untangles complexity and ships durable systems - Leverage Gusto's unique payroll ecosystem to build banking features unavailable to competitors - Define how banking connects to the broader Gusto platform, making the account the default funding source - Design for self-serve by anticipating customer friction and resolving it in-product - Coordinate tightly with cross-functional teams (Product, Engineering, Design, Data, Risk, Compliance, Legal, Ops) - Partner with external vendors (partner banks, banking infrastructure providers, card processors) - Deeply understand small business cash flow dynamics and team spending patterns to craft effective product narratives - Define and own KPIs around account opening, funding, deposit growth, and primacy; use data to drive prioritization and iteration Gusto's product team is lean and empowered. You'll move fast by pairing sharp product judgment with AI fluency—automating what slows teams down and amplifying creative, high-performing work. The culture is mission-driven, focused on lifting up small business owners with technology for an AI-first world. You'll thrive in ambiguity, blend curiosity with experimentation, and help shape how products are built at Gusto. Requirements: - 7+ years of product management experience in fintech, banking, or adjacent industries - Hands-on familiarity with business banking, BaaS platforms, deposit products, or money movement rails (bonus: KYB/onboarding flows, ledgering, or partner bank relationships) - Proven ability to take products from 0→1 and pre-beta to launch with limited resources - Track record running a real experimentation practice (hypothesis, test design, readout, decision) and learning from directional signal in early-stage products - Understanding of regulatory and operational complexity of banking products; ability to partner effectively with Risk, Legal, and Compliance teams - Bias toward action, comfort with ambiguity, and strong sense of ownership - Deep care for small businesses and desire to build the account they trust with their money - Active engagement with AI tools relevant to the role
