Octopus Energy is a global energy transition collective of 10,000+ people working across 4 continents to drive the green energy revolution. The company started as Britain's first truly digital energy supplier and became the UK's largest by 2025. OE Tech is the engineering and product organization within Octopus Energy, focused on building products that make tangible differences in people's lives: lowering bills, enabling greener living, and delivering customer experiences that matter.
In North America, Octopus recently invested in Uplight, a software company that manages energy resources in homes and businesses—smart thermostats, electric vehicles, solar panels, storage batteries, heat pumps—to generate, shift, or save energy and balance the grid. This creates clean energy capacity that reduces reliance on fossil fuels and accelerates the clean energy transition while saving customers money.
You will join OE Tech as a Product Manager focused on North American work at Uplight. You'll own the core user experience of optimizing smart devices, ensuring seamless experiences for both end customers and program managers running demand response programs at scale. Your goal is to enable energy companies to reliably depend on load shedding from aggregated smart devices for scalable, resilient, and easy-to-use dispatch.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning and running a clear, forward-looking product roadmap that prioritizes the biggest opportunities while managing cross-team dependencies
- Taking full ownership of planning, delivering, and monitoring key missions, keeping things on track and ensuring smooth handoffs
- Day-to-day execution: breaking down work so engineering teams can ship quickly, writing PRDs, and running rituals that keep teams aligned
- Leading product discovery through rapid experimentation, prototyping, and data-driven insights
- Managing stakeholder networks to ensure shared understanding of what's being built and expected customer value
- Putting yourself in the customer's shoes to uncover pain points and turn them into great experiences
- Maintaining product documentation, monitoring market trends, and supporting commercial agreements and external suppliers
You'll work side by side with engineers, customer operations, and field teams in a flat hierarchy with an open, agile culture that fosters innovation and creativity.
Requirements:
- 3+ years of product management experience with proven stories of taking ideas from discovery through launch and user adoption
- Experience in startups or fast-moving scale-ups where you've figured things out without rigid playbooks
- Genuine care for customers and their experience; you push teams to get details right
- Comfort with AI for prototyping and with data to write your own queries for independent testing and idea validation
- Natural urge to discover and experiment; comfortable working with UX and engineering to test assumptions and build lean MVPs quickly
- Experience navigating busy stakeholder environments, building trust, and keeping teams aligned around shared vision
- Flexibility and focus; you stay calm in ambiguity, juggle competing priorities well, and weigh risk against business value
- Healthy curiosity about market trends, competitor movements, and how business cases and ROI tie into product decisions
- Deeply collaborative spirit that bridges UX, data, and engineering with the customer's real-world experience at the center
Nice to haves:
- Familiarity with energy, flexibility, utilities, or other regulated industries
- Experience working in data-science-driven products
