CodeHS is a comprehensive K-12 computer science education platform used by millions of students and thousands of schools and districts globally. The company provides curriculum, professional development, and a full software platform with the mission to empower all students to meaningfully impact the future by making coding a foundational skill. You will be CodeHS's first formal product manager, joining a 15-person engineering team organized into small project teams that ship constantly. This is a non-people-management individual contributor role reporting to Zach Galant, CTO & co-founder. You will own a product area end-to-end from concept to launch—likely a newer bet where the shape is still being worked out, though it could be an existing surface needing more attention or a few smaller areas. You'll build domain expertise and act as an owner, sitting as a peer with engineering managers and running small teams of engineers with a focus area, keeping them on track and ensuring the right things are built. Key responsibilities include: owning product areas end-to-end; gathering conviction from teachers, districts, market data, and your team; turning that conviction into actionable direction for engineering; building prototypes using AI coding agents; writing detailed specs and product briefs; talking directly to customers and classrooms; and connecting engineering to sales, customer success, support, and curriculum teams to synthesize their product and tooling needs. You will work in-person five days per week at the River North office in Chicago. This is intentional—the role depends on coming up to speed quickly on the product, customers, and how the engineering team works, which happens faster in person. You'll also mentor and be mentored by the team. Your working style emphasizes: building and prototyping (using AI agents to drive working prototypes that engineers then take to completion); writing things down (specs, briefs, reasoning); talking to users and customers; and connecting engineering to the rest of the organization. This is CodeHS's first formal product role, so you have an opportunity to help shape what the product function can do and how it fits within engineering and the company. REQUIREMENTS: - Comfortable being technical without necessarily having been an engineer; able to read pull requests, argue about tradeoffs, and ask useful follow-up questions when engineers raise blockers - Fluent with AI and adaptive to rapid change; able to prototype with coding agents, run research and synthesis through them, build yourself tools, and describe times models were confidently wrong and you caught it - High agency—no one hands you a backlog; if you need something to exist, you make it exist - Clear communicator; bottom-line-up-front style; easy for others to reply to - Willingness and enthusiasm for in-person, five-days-per-week work in Chicago
