Basecamp Research is an AI-driven therapeutic design company building frontier models (EDEN) trained on BaseData, the world's largest proprietary genomic dataset with over 10 billion genes from partnerships across 30+ countries and all seven continents. The company designs cell and gene therapies, enzymes, and peptides directly from disease information, with a pipeline advancing toward clinical development. Recently closed a $140M Series C (September 2026) led by S32 with participation from NVIDIA, Anthropic's Anthology Fund, and others. Offices in London and Boston.
You will own the peptide platform as a commercial product, sitting between the model/science teams and business development. You are accountable for the peptide portfolio having a defined buyer, defensible claims, and credible pricing. Initially reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, you will drive market strategy, target product profiles, productization decisions, and partner engagement.
Key responsibilities include:
**Market & Competitive Intelligence:** Build and maintain a rigorous view of the peptide therapeutics landscape by segment, indication, and modality. Track competitor activity across AI-enabled discovery platforms, peptide-focused biotechs, display/screening providers, and pharma capabilities. Maintain a live map of deal structures, comparables, and valuation benchmarks for platform licensing and co-development. Conduct structured voice-of-customer work with pharma R&D leaders and translate findings into prioritized, written requirements.
**Target Product Profiles & Programme Definition:** Author and defend target product profiles for internal peptide programmes, specifying load-bearing properties, desirable features, and falsification criteria. Translate partner-supplied profiles into feasible research plans with honest assessments of platform capabilities. Define stage gates and go/no-go criteria for programmes, making recommendations on programme continuation.
**Productization & Roadmap:** Decide which platform capabilities become licensable products and in what sequence, balancing near-term revenue against durable differentiation. Own the peptide product roadmap end-to-end, agreeing priorities with model, data, and science teams. Define packaging and commercial models (access arrangements, bespoke fine-tuning, co-development structures, asset licensing). Specify data needed from partners to improve models and turn collaboration offers into precise requests.
**Positioning, Evidence & Partner Engagement:** Build the peptide narrative and supporting materials (capability maps, benchmark summaries, validation packages, competitive comparisons). Set and enforce standards for external claims regarding validation, benchmarks, and limitations. Support business development through partner meetings, scientific exchanges, conferences, and diligence. Collaborate on IP strategy, freedom-to-operate considerations, and novelty positioning.
**Requirements:**
- 10+ years in pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry with substantial exposure to peptide, protein, or biologics therapeutics in discovery, development, product strategy, or business development
- Demonstrable command of peptide drug challenges: proteolytic stability, oral and systemic exposure, receptor selectivity, off-target risk, immunogenicity, formulation, manufacturability, and trade-offs
- Track record of shaping and closing partnerships, licensing agreements, or platform deals with pharmaceutical companies, or owning commercial strategy for platforms sold into pharma R&D
- Proven ability to author target product profiles, competitive assessments, and commercial cases that senior stakeholders act on
- Credibility in both technical discussions with computational/experimental scientists and commercial discussions with pharma VPs, without over-claiming
- Comfort operating with incomplete evidence and discipline to distinguish between validated, promising, and aspirational claims
- Excellent written English; significant portion of role involves producing documents that must be accurate
- Willingness to travel internationally, typically once or twice monthly
**Advantageous Experience:**
- Experience in metabolic disease, immunology, anti-infectives, or other therapeutic areas with active peptide pipelines
- Familiarity with macrocyclic peptides, peptidomimetics, non-canonical amino acids, conjugation strategies, or oral delivery technologies
- Direct experience with AI-enabled drug discovery platforms (platform or pharma side)
- Postgraduate degree in life science, chemistry, or related field, or equivalent industry depth
- Prior experience in companies with fewer than 150 people
