Ello is an AI-powered educational platform on a mission to maximize the potential of every child globally. Their flagship product, Read with Ello, helps tens of thousands of children learn to read weekly through personalized, adaptive AI instruction. The company is expanding into a comprehensive AI teacher covering multiple subjects and is structured as a public benefit corporation committed to providing free, excellent learning experiences.
As Product Lead for Monetization, you will own the complete monetization strategy and execution for Ello's consumer app. This encompasses pricing and packaging decisions, paywall design and placement, checkout flow optimization, trial-to-paid conversion, subscription renewals, dunning and failed payment recovery, cancellation prevention, and winback campaigns. You'll build the monetization financial model, establish key metrics and reporting (LTV, ARPU, payback period, retention curves), and collaborate with growth, marketing, engineering, and design teams to implement and test monetization features.
A core constraint shapes this role: Ello is a public benefit corporation committed to keeping core teaching free. You're not monetizing the learning itself but rather premium features and enhanced experiences. Additionally, you're selling to two distinct audiences—children and parents—each with different value perceptions and decision-making moments.
You'll leverage AI to amplify your individual productivity and eventually grow into hiring and leading a monetization team. The role requires deep expertise in mobile subscription economics, app store billing mechanics (StoreKit, Play Billing), pricing experimentation, and data analysis. You'll need to navigate cross-functional complexity, as pricing decisions touch product, marketing, finance, and support teams, each with strong perspectives.
Ideal candidates have 6+ years as a product manager with proven ownership of consumer subscription revenue on iOS and Android, hands-on experience running paywall and pricing experiments with measurable results, SQL-level data fluency, and serious hands-on AI usage in their own work. Experience with products where the payer differs from the user (kids' apps, health, finance) is valuable, as is exposure to high-growth scaling from $1M–$10M+ revenue stages.
