Viva Benefits, a pre-seed banking technology company, is seeking a Product Engineer to join its Technology, Product and Innovation division in Athens. This role represents a new approach to software development: you will frame business problems precisely, write detailed specifications, and direct AI development tools to build production-ready solutions, taking ownership end-to-end from ambiguous requirement to shipped product.
You will work mostly independently, taking problems from first question through to production, and drawing on a small group of experts when needed. Your core responsibilities include: translating vague business problems into precise specifications with clear requirements, constraints, acceptance criteria, edge cases and failure scenarios; directing AI tools through prototyping, building, testing and iteration; validating outcomes against defined test scenarios; anticipating exceptions (unusual data, failure modes, integration issues, regulatory edge cases); knowing when to escalate to security, architecture, platform or domain experts; shepherding solutions through to production and improving them based on real usage and feedback; presenting work confidently to colleagues and senior stakeholders; working within internal AI development frameworks and standards; collaborating closely with product, risk, operations and engineering experts while driving execution yourself; and adapting as priorities shift, picking up new projects and handing over work cleanly with documentation.
This is a fully on-site role at the Athens office with no remote or work-from-home options. The company emphasizes that AI is how they build (not what they do), and human judgment remains critical for problem definition, rule-setting, and shipping decisions.
REQUIREMENTS
Essential:
- University degree in engineering
- Strong command of C# and .NET, plus solid SQL and data modelling
- Firm grasp of system design: APIs, distributed systems, concurrency and security fundamentals
- Testing discipline, CI/CD, and hands-on experience running systems in production including observability and incident handling
- Daily, hands-on use of AI coding agents with clear understanding of their limitations
- Fluency in English (written and spoken)
- Excellent presentation and public speaking skills, confidence presenting to groups and senior audiences
- Strong social and interpersonal skills; ability to build relationships quickly and communicate with technical and non-technical colleagues
- Track record of delivering complex solutions or projects from concept to production in any technical or analytical setting
Thinking:
- Strong analytical and structured-thinking skills; ability to break down ambiguous problems, test assumptions and make pragmatic decisions
- Excellent written communication; ability to express intent, logic and constraints precisely enough for execution
- Sound judgment on risk, quality and trade-offs; instinct to spot what's missing or wrong in a solution
Working style:
- Evidence of working with AI tools or agentic workflows; ability to learn and operate quickly within a defined framework and its controls
- High ownership and autonomy; drive execution end-to-end without close direction
- Strong teamwork; work well with a few experts at a time, share knowledge openly, prioritize team outcomes
- Agility; comfort with incomplete requirements, changing direction, rotating teams; productivity with new colleagues and problems
- Curiosity about how AI is changing work, balanced by discipline in following the framework
Nice to have: experience in banking, payments or other regulated environments; experience with data, integrations or process automation; prototypes or projects that went somewhere.
