OpenGov is seeking a Product Engineer II to own increasing responsibility for a product area within its AI and ERP platform for local and state governments. This role bridges product management and engineering, leveraging AI-native tooling to accelerate execution while focusing on high-leverage customer and strategic work. You will define and communicate product vision grounded in customer research, competitive context, and business goals. Key responsibilities include conducting and synthesizing customer discovery to inform defensible build/cut decisions, owning the product roadmap with ruthless prioritization, and defining user experience flows within the design system. You'll write clear intent documents that AI tooling executes against, review AI-generated specs for accuracy and completeness, and partner closely with engineering to unblock builds and resolve ambiguity in real time. The role emphasizes outcome ownership: tracking adoption, usage, and business metrics to drive iteration; representing your product in customer conversations and cross-functional reviews; and identifying gaps in AI harnesses and design system coverage to surface as platform investment requests. AI-native tooling handles spec writing (you review and sharpen), UX design mockups (you make product decisions), research synthesis (you interpret and roadmap), release content generation, automated code review, test case generation, and competitive intelligence monitoring. Your job is to understand customers, make the call on what matters, own outcomes, and build cross-functional trust. Required: 2–4 years in product management, software engineering, or adjacent technical role; ability to navigate cross-functional projects; experience conducting interviews or translating requirements into specs; strong written and verbal communication; track record of shipping reliably; developing comfort with AI-assisted workflows; willingness to become proficient with AI tools. Preferred: familiarity with design systems, component-based architecture, API/data modeling, or modern SaaS architecture (APIs, cloud, CI/CD).
