Gusto is hiring a Product Designer to lead design strategy for the Retirement product line, which serves small business owners and their employees with accessible 401(k) plans and retirement solutions. You'll operate as the design lead for your projects, co-owning priorities, success metrics, and driving alignment across the Retirement team and key partner teams including Payroll, Benefits, and Support/Operations.
Your scope includes improving setup and account management experiences to boost confidence, adoption, and retention while reducing support contact rates. You'll create more connected journeys between payroll and retirement by designing across product, operations, and support boundaries—where the most complex and interesting problems live. You'll design flexible, scalable patterns across Retirement that integrate seamlessly with adjacent payroll and benefits touchpoints, applying thoughtful judgment about when and how to incorporate AI to enhance the user experience.
Day-to-day responsibilities include partnering with Product Management to define customer problems, strategy, and measurable outcomes across activation, engagement, and retention. You'll collaborate with Data and Research teams to understand funnel drop-offs, behavioral patterns, and retention drivers, then iterate based on learnings. You'll drive the full design process for shipped experiences—scoping, sequencing, prototyping, testing, and delivering from MVP through iteration to longer-term improvements.
A key part of the role involves translating regulatory and tax-driven requirements into clear flows, content, and UI patterns that build trust without overwhelming customers. You'll communicate and tell compelling stories about design decisions to cross-functional partners and leadership.
Gusto's design organization is AI-native. You're expected to actively use AI tools in your daily workflows to move faster, explore ideas, and increase impact. The company values creativity, transparency, craft, and collaborative problem-solving. Design at Gusto is made up of over 80 people working closely with Product, Engineering, Data, and Marketing to build experiences that make a real difference for small businesses.
