OpenAI's Payments team is building the financial infrastructure that powers AI products for consumers and enterprises globally. This role leads design for payments, billing, and monetization experiences—foundational systems that support emerging AI usage models including pay-as-you-go pricing, Codex usage, and agentic workflows.
You will own the design direction for payments and billing across OpenAI's consumer and enterprise products. This extends beyond traditional checkout; you'll shape how customers understand, manage, and pay for entirely new kinds of AI usage. You'll design end-to-end experiences from early concepts through production, translating complex business and technical requirements into intuitive, scalable systems.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading design direction for foundational payments, billing, and monetization experiences
- Designing and shipping high-quality, end-to-end product experiences from concept to production
- Shaping infrastructure and product frameworks for emerging AI usage models
- Partnering with engineering, product, finance, and design peers on platform strategy and roadmap prioritization
- Translating platform dependencies, financial logic, and technical constraints into clear, trustworthy user experiences
- Conducting user research to understand how individuals and organizations evaluate pricing, track usage, and make purchasing decisions
- Contributing to design systems, patterns, and principles for consistency across payments products
- Helping establish design culture for a growing, foundational product area
Ideal candidates are systems thinkers who connect user experiences to underlying platform architecture and business logic. You have experience designing complex, infrastructure-adjacent, platform, or enterprise products with strong UX/UI and interaction design skills. You're comfortable leading ambiguous product areas, developing clear vision, and shaping roadmaps. Experience with payments, billing, pricing, monetization, or usage-based products is valued, as is the ability to work within and improve shared design systems. You excel at explaining complex decisions and tradeoffs to technical, business, and design stakeholders.
