OpenAI's Identity team builds foundational systems enabling secure access to OpenAI products across consumer and enterprise contexts. The team owns account structures, sign-in, authentication, recovery, privacy, permissions, administration, and agent identity—with growing focus on how AI agents securely act on behalf of people and organizations.
As a Product Designer for Identity, you will lead design direction for foundational identity experiences across OpenAI's product suite. Your scope spans established identity challenges (sign-in, account recovery, permissions, access controls) and emerging interaction models where design conventions don't yet exist (human-to-agent and agent-to-agent authorization and trust).
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading design for identity, account security, permissions, and administrative experiences across consumer and enterprise products
- Designing and shipping high-quality experiences spanning authentication, device accounts, privacy, governance, and remediation flows
- Defining mental models and interaction patterns for how users understand what agents can access and who/what they act on behalf of
- Designing security checks and confirmation flows that protect sensitive actions while minimizing friction
- Partnering with product, engineering, security, privacy, and design teams to shape strategy and execution
- Navigating complex roles, policies, and dependencies to create coherent systems at scale
- Contributing to design systems and patterns used across OpenAI's identity experiences
You should have systems-oriented product thinking, experience designing role-based access and permissions for organizations with multiple teams and administration levels, and the ability to balance security, usability, and business needs in high-stakes workflows. Strong UX/UI and interaction design skills are essential, as is the ability to translate complicated technical capabilities into mental models users can understand and trust. Experience with enterprise, platform, or infrastructure products is valuable. You'll be comfortable shaping direction when both underlying technology and user expectations are evolving, and excited to establish new conventions for identity and access in an AI-agent-driven world.
