ICON is seeking a Product Designer to own the user experience for a core product area within BuildOS, a software platform used by architects, builders, and construction operators. You will lead end-to-end UX work from discovery research through design handoff, running customer interviews, mapping complex workflows, building prototypes, testing with real users, and writing specifications for engineering teams.
Key responsibilities include conducting regular interviews with architects, engineers, and builders to understand workflows and pain points; mapping user workflows and edge cases for multi-step construction and design processes; creating wireframes, interaction flows, and interactive prototypes in Figma; building and testing prototypes with target users on a regular cadence; delivering developer-ready specs with annotated designs and acceptance criteria; collaborating daily with engineers and product leadership; and connecting design work to company-wide OKRs.
You will design for diverse users ranging from technical specialists to first-time operators with varying software fluency levels. You'll work two or more sprints ahead of engineering to ensure teams have clear, well-defined work. The role requires strong communication skills to explain design choices to engineers, leaders, and customers, and comfort working through ambiguity to define problems, not just solve defined ones.
Minimum qualifications include 3+ years in UX design or product design; a portfolio demonstrating end-to-end design work from research through shipped product; experience running user interviews and translating qualitative research into design decisions; strong Figma fluency; experience designing for workflows with real constraints; and clear communication abilities.
Preferred qualifications include experience in construction technology, architecture, manufacturing, robotics, or hardware-adjacent fields, and familiarity with 3D visualization, CAD tools, or spatial design interfaces. This role is based in ICON's Austin, TX office and reports to the Director of Product.
