Gusto is building the financial platform for small businesses, handling payroll, health insurance, 401(k)s, and HR. With over 500,000 small business customers, Gusto is now deepening its financial ecosystem and seeking a Product Designer, Finance to set the UX vision and strategy across four interconnected product areas: Business Money, Consumer Money, Payments, and Risk.
In this Staff/Principal-level individual contributor role, you will define what AI-first financial UX looks like at scale—a challenge nobody has fully solved yet. You'll see across individual teams to identify systemic opportunities and gaps spanning the full financial experience, ensuring Gusto's products feel clear, trustworthy, and empowering for hundreds of thousands of small businesses and employees.
Your day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Setting UX vision and strategy across Money and Risk teams, connecting dots across multiple pods for a cohesive platform experience
- Identifying and driving high-impact design opportunities that individual pods cannot see from within their area
- Influencing product strategy, roadmap priorities, and team OKRs alongside product directors and engineering leaders
- Stepping in as a direct IC on highest-priority projects
- Developing other designers and contributing platform patterns that scale beyond Money and Risk teams
The Money team builds financial products helping small businesses and employees move, manage, and access money—from business finance tools to employee financial benefits. The Risk team provides the trust layer, building fraud protection systems and identity infrastructure that determines how customers verify themselves and access Gusto's financial products.
Design at Gusto comprises over 80 creative, collaborative people working cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Data, and Marketing.
