OpenAI's Engineering Acceleration team is seeking a Product Designer to lead design across two interconnected product areas: a real-time data exploration and observability platform for investigating large-scale system behavior, and an experimentation platform for safely launching changes and measuring impact.
This role goes beyond dashboard design. You'll define interaction models that guide users from vague questions or unexpected signals to trustworthy answers and clear next steps. You'll work closely with engineers, researchers, data scientists, and product teams to understand their workflows and make dense technical systems coherent without oversimplifying critical details.
Key responsibilities include leading end-to-end design for data-intensive products, shaping the complete learning loop from instrumentation through iteration, and creating workflows for querying, filtering, comparison, visualization, and alerting. You'll make complex concepts—data freshness, coverage, reliability, uncertainty, experiment assignment, metric validity—understandable and actionable. You'll also establish consistency across OpenAI's enterprise and internal tools, developing durable patterns that support AI-native workflows.
Ideal candidates have substantial experience with data products, observability platforms, experimentation systems, analytics, developer tools, or AI/ML tooling. You're a strong product and systems thinker who can set direction in ambiguous spaces and make durable decisions. You excel at making dense information feel calm and legible without oversimplifying. You're technically fluent, enjoy learning how underlying systems work, and can build credibility with highly technical users. You understand trust, provenance, reliability, and uncertainty. You've redesigned workflows spanning multiple tools and created coherence across ecosystems. You have strong UX/UI and interaction design skills with a high bar for contemporary visual craft. You can demonstrate how your work changed product decisions or improved team velocity. You enjoy staying close to detailed workflows while shaping broader vision, and you're excited about how engineers and AI agents will build and improve software together.
