Salary: USD 150,000 - 200,000 / annual
Applied Intuition is a $15B Series A company powering physical AI for autonomous systems across defense, automotive, trucking, and industrial sectors. The Defense team has proven autonomy, simulation, and onboard systems in real deployments and is now scaling bespoke program wins into repeatable products.
You'll own the end-to-end design of defense products, spanning two connected surfaces: real-time operator interfaces for command, control, and situational awareness (tablets, ground stations, shipboard/airborne environments with constrained compute and connectivity), and enterprise web platforms for defense engineering teams to build, simulate, test, and ship autonomy.
Key responsibilities include conducting primary research with warfighters, analysts, and engineers; designing real-time edge interfaces that reduce cognitive load under contested communications and limited compute; designing trust models for agentic autonomy with appropriate approval and escalation patterns; designing enterprise tools for building and validating autonomy; extending the Defense design system across workflows; and representing design at demos and industry events.
You'll report to the head of product design and partner with PMs and engineers across DroneStack, Defense OS, autonomy platforms, and simulation. Expect up to 25% travel, including internationally, to bases, ranges, and customer sites.
Required: 8+ years of product design experience across meaningfully different environments; proven track record shipping products end to end; strong research instincts and ability to learn new domains; portfolio demonstrating judgment on information density and decision UI; comfort with technically complex systems; strong engineer collaboration; clear communication skills; proficiency with modern prototyping tools; U.S. citizenship; and eligibility for U.S. security clearance (TS/SCI target, company-sponsored).
Nice to have: active DoD clearance, defense/intelligence/maritime/aerospace/first-responder experience, C2/air traffic/cockpit/geospatial/real-time simulation background, developer platform or MLOps experience, edge/constrained-compute design experience, AI copilot/agentic system trust pattern experience, prior military/intelligence/fleet service, or design practice building experience.
