Gusto is hiring a Senior Product Designer for the Benefits team to design and launch a new product offering. The Benefits team focuses on helping small businesses and their employees access better quality care at more affordable rates. You'll partner closely with Product Managers, Engineers, Data Science, CX, Operations, and Sales to transform the complexity of the benefits space into clear, human, and trustworthy experiences.
Day-to-day responsibilities include leading 0→1 discovery and design for a new Benefits product offering, designing end-to-end service experiences across employer, employee, and internal operations workflows, and designing AI-assisted decision moments that help customers choose with confidence. You'll design the system that makes AI safe and scalable by defining objects, rules, states, and exception paths with guardrails for human deferral. You'll make data legible and operational by shaping information models and UX so humans and AI collaborate effectively. You'll build product feedback loops that improve AI quality over time by defining success metrics and human-in-the-loop review patterns. Additionally, you'll design in code to ship faster using AI-assisted dev tools like Cursor and Claude Code, prototyping and delivering production-quality UI while collaborating tightly with engineering.
Gusto's Design organization comprises over 80 creative, collaborative people focused on empowering small businesses and their employees. The company is building an AI-native design organization where designers use AI to prototype ideas quickly, shorten customer feedback loops, and ship quality UX directly to customers. This is not a future aspiration but how the organization works now.
Gusto handles payroll, health insurance, 401(k)s, and HR for more than 500,000 small businesses nationwide. The company has teams in Denver, San Francisco, and New York. AI is a fundamental part of how work gets done at Gusto, and all team members are expected to actively engage with AI tools relevant to their role.
