Scotch is building a next-generation operating system for beverage alcohol retailers, combining POS, payments, back office, and e-commerce into a unified platform. The company is modernizing the $1.6T beverage alcohol market and has raised $28M from top-tier investors including VMG Partners and First Round, with a recent $20M Series A in 2026 off 500%+ YoY growth. As Product Designer, you will own key parts of Scotch's web-based back office used by store owners and managers to run their business. Your focus will be on how merchants manage customer orders, transactions, payments, and integrations—both improving existing workflows and designing new ones. This is not a requirements-to-wireframes role; you will lead research with merchants, synthesize findings, and shape what the company builds. Your work spans money, data, and partner systems where clarity and trust matter as much as polish. You'll be a thought partner to product managers and engineering, pushing back on over-specified solutions and surfacing problems the team didn't think to ask about. Key responsibilities include: - Own the design of merchant-facing order, transaction, payment, and integration management in the back office - Lead discovery through interviews, usability testing, and in-store visits; turn learnings into clear design decisions - Make complex financial information (payouts, fees, sales reports, transaction histories) easy to understand and act on - Design clear experiences for connecting and managing third-party integrations - Design responsive experiences that work on mobile, tablet, and desktop - Partner closely with product managers to define requirements and challenge assumptions - Collaborate with engineers to bring designs to life and help drive AI-assisted design workflows - Contribute to and evolve the design system, establishing patterns for data-heavy views - Collaborate with other designers to ensure Scotch feels like one cohesive product - Participate in the full product lifecycle, including roadmap conversations and post-launch iteration You'll work in a fast-moving R&D environment where design is taken seriously and you have true ownership over the product direction. REQUIREMENTS: - 4+ years of product/UX design experience in a startup or fast-moving environment - Portfolio demonstrating end-to-end work including research, problem framing, and shipped product - Experience designing data-heavy web products (dashboards, reports, transaction views) that scale with complexity - Experience designing responsive experiences across desktop, tablet, and mobile - Strong visual and interaction design skills; ability to sweat details that matter and know when to push vs. ship - Skilled researcher who can plan discovery, synthesize findings quickly, and turn ambiguous problems into clear direction - Experience partnering closely with PMs and pushing back constructively; you help define the problem, not just solve it - Systems thinking: care about patterns, consistency, and how designs scale - Comfortable working alongside engineers in fast-moving R&D and understanding implementation constraints - Proficient with Figma and Claude; able to prototype quickly to test assumptions and communicate behavior NICE TO HAVES: - Experience designing complex B2B or operational workflows (retail, logistics, or similar) - Experience designing integrations, settings, or configuration flows for third-party tools - Familiarity with building, maintaining, and scaling design systems - Active use of AI tools in your own workflow and excitement about designing AI-assisted experiences - Exposure to frontend development or strong mental model of design-to-build handoff
