Bland AI is a Series C startup that has raised over $100M building the world's most human AI phone agents. Thousands of businesses rely on the platform to automate customer conversations while delivering genuinely enjoyable experiences. The voice AI space is nascent with no established design conventions—the patterns being written now will define the category.
You'll own the complete design of Bland's product: interaction model, visual language, and design system. Working day-to-day with the lead designer and PM, you'll be responsible for how users interact with the platform and how it looks when it ships. This role reports to the Design Lead.
Key ownership areas include: architecting and maintaining the design system (components, motion, design.md enforcement); designing interaction patterns for major surfaces from behavior through shipped UI; establishing and evolving the product's visual direction as new surfaces expand; pushing frontend polish PRs directly in the codebase; and collaborating with leadership to solve product problems.
The product is a dashboard where customers build, test, evaluate, and run LLM voice agents. Configuration-driven behavior (not scripted), non-deterministic outputs, and a mix of technical and non-technical users (CIOs, call center experts, internal teams). You're joining mid-redesign of the dashboard—this role will be a major contributor to a ground-up refresh landing next quarter.
The team moves fast: PRs open in the morning, merge by afternoon. Priorities shift mid-week. You'll juggle multiple surfaces simultaneously, using AI coding tools (Claude, etc.) as part of your normal workflow. The bar is high—design held to the same standard as the model, with the expectation that competitors will study and copy what ships.
You bring 4+ years shipping web products, including time as designer at an early-stage B2B SaaS company. You've designed hard surfaces: data-heavy dashboards, workflow tools, configuration-driven UIs. Your portfolio shows visual work that stands on its own. You've built and shipped a design system that was actually adopted in production. You have real depth in interaction design—micro-interactions, loading states, empty states, error handling. You're comfortable with AI coding tools and can implement frontend polish yourself. You're fluent in Figma and modern prototyping tools (Weave, Flora, etc.). Most importantly, you're curious about the product itself—you ask engineers how things work, you dig into agent behavior below the UI, and you proactively gather context rather than waiting for tickets.
