Beacon AI is building an AI platform to make flying safer, more efficient, and more capable. The company is backed by top investors, has secured a dozen Department of Defense contracts, and partners with major airlines to deliver mission-critical systems. As Product Designer, you will own the end-to-end design process for Beacon AI's pilot assistant, from discovery and user research through wireframes, prototypes, and final specifications handed off to engineering. You will conduct research and usability testing with pilots and aviation professionals to deeply understand workflows, mental models, and safety-critical needs. A core responsibility is translating complex AI-driven data and alerts into interfaces that are instantly clear and actionable in high-pressure cockpit environments. You will build and maintain a scalable design system ensuring consistency and speed across the product, partner closely with engineering and product teams to ship polished experiences iteratively, and contribute to brand and visual identity as a secondary responsibility supporting marketing and web presence. Success requires experience as a sole or founding designer, leading design end-to-end and moving quickly from concept to execution. You should have strong product design instincts, fluency in Figma, and the ability to own a design system end-to-end. You ask "why" before "what does it look like" and push back when a brief isn't solving the right problem. You are energized by complexity and ambiguity, not intimidated by it, and have genuine curiosity about aviation, aerospace, or safety-critical industries. Bonus qualifications include 3+ years in product design with complex, data-heavy, or safety-critical products (aviation, aerospace, defense, medical devices, enterprise software); proficiency in modern design tools with a strong portfolio; experience designing AI-powered products; and familiarity with motion design, micro-interactions, or basic HTML/CSS. This is a hybrid role based in San Carlos, CA, requiring 3+ days per week onsite with flexibility to work remotely on remaining days. Full-time employees receive comprehensive healthcare (100% employee medical premiums covered, 25% for dependents), 3 weeks PTO plus 13+ paid holidays, monthly phone and wellness stipends, and 401(k).
