Lab37 Robotics is developing robotic systems for direct-to-customer food production, revolutionizing how restaurants operate in the online food delivery space. As a Product Designer, you will own the UX vision and strategy across robotic systems and internal tools, translating complex user needs, business goals, and technical constraints into intuitive, scalable design solutions.
Key responsibilities include designing new robotic product concepts (prep, cook, serve systems) while maintaining consistent design language and ensuring proper human ergonomics and user experience touchpoints. You'll build UI/UX for operator-facing robot displays and internal operational tools, creating high-fidelity mockups and prototypes that communicate design rationale to engineering teams. The role involves conducting qualitative and quantitative user research—interviews, usability testing—to validate concepts and ground the product roadmap in real-world user needs.
You'll design and prototype operational tools, produce detailed user flows and specifications, and facilitate cross-functional collaboration with product managers, engineers, and end users throughout the design lifecycle. This is a hands-on role requiring expertise in design and prototyping tools (Solidworks, generative AI tools) and the ability to think systemically across mechanics, electronics, firmware, cloud services, and UX.
Required qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Design, HCI, or related field; 4+ years designing complex hardware/software systems or enterprise tools; expert proficiency with Solidworks and generative AI design tools; proven track record shipping end-to-end user experiences; strong portfolio demonstrating the full design process; systems-thinking across multiple domains; exceptional communication skills.
Desirable: experience with embedded systems, robot interfaces, design systems, or food-service equipment/NSF/UL compliance. The role is based in Pittsburgh with five-day-per-week onsite work. Salary: $149,000–$188,000 annually, plus equity and performance-based bonus.
