Glydways is reimagining public transit with a groundbreaking network of carbon-neutral, autonomous vehicles on dedicated roadways. The company is seeking a Product Design / Studio Engineer to join the Vehicle Engineering team, serving as the critical bridge between Industrial Design and Mechanical Engineering. In this role, you will architect the physical interior and exterior of the autonomous vehicle fleet, partnering closely with Industrial Designers, UX Researchers, and cross-functional engineering teams (Structures, Electronics, Thermal). You will own the complete journey from initial Class-A surfacing and physical stack-ups through high-volume manufacturing bring-up. Key responsibilities include: - Champion design through mechanical engineering rigor, guiding complex tradeoffs while protecting the overall product vision - Bridge design intent and engineering execution by protecting cosmetic and ergonomic vision while ensuring structural and mechanical viability - Own physical vehicle architecture, managing micro-tolerance loops, high-density component integration (displays, sensors, lighting, interior electronics), and complex packaging within stylized enclosures - Lead advanced CAD and surfacing development, creating high-quality Class-A surfaces and digital master models as the single source of truth - Conceptualize, build, and test proof-of-concept mockups using quick-turn CNC, 3D printing, and custom fabrication - Design highly cosmetic components optimized for high-volume manufacturing (injection molding, thermoforming, composites, sheet metal, casting) - Partner with external manufacturing vendors to maintain visual and cosmetic standards through molding validation, tooling, and assembly - Establish and govern physical cosmetic standards, texture finishes, and tolerance guidelines across the fleet Required qualifications: 5–10+ years as a Product Design Engineer, Studio Engineer, or Mechanical Engineer working with Industrial Design teams in automotive, high-growth tech, consumer hardware, or mobility. Strong portfolio demonstrating complex physical architecture, high-density integration, and shipped cosmetic hardware products. Exceptional proficiency in advanced 3D surfacing and master-modeling (Siemens NX, Creo, or SolidWorks). Deep knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and mass-production techniques. Systems thinking with attention to detail. Comfortable operating at the interface of creative and technical teams with excellent communication skills.
