Anthropic is seeking a Product Design Manager to lead design efforts on Claude, an AI assistant used by millions daily. This role blends hands-on design execution with team leadership, requiring someone who ships fast, questions fundamental UI assumptions, and invents interaction patterns native to AI. As a designer, you'll work at the intersection of craft, research, and product intuition. You'll partner closely with engineers and researchers, often designing around emerging model capabilities in real-time. The role demands rapid prototyping, comfort with ambiguity, and a focus on shipping polished work quickly rather than pursuing perfection. You'll stay close to the models, pay attention to where capabilities are heading, and use tools like Claude Code to extend what you can build. As a leader, you'll manage and mentor 2-6+ product designers, providing coaching, feedback, and career development. You'll establish design quality standards, coordinate cross-team efforts, and advocate for design in leadership discussions. You'll build alignment without authority, influence through strong communication and collaborative problem-solving, and model the quality bar while empowering your team to lead. Key responsibilities include managing and developing your design team, establishing quality standards, coordinating cross-team design efforts, partnering with engineering and product leadership on roadmaps, and contributing hands-on to design execution. You'll define feature areas with exceptional attention to detail, craft beautiful and polished interfaces that build trust, collaborate with product managers and engineers on vision and strategy, rapidly prototype ideas using code, and find creative ways to ship high-quality work in a fast-paced startup environment. Minimum qualifications: experience managing or leading product designers with coaching and career development; experience designing and shipping digital products end-to-end; a portfolio demonstrating user-centered design thinking and polished UI craftsmanship; proficiency with modern design tools like Figma. Preferred: 8+ years of product design experience with 2+ years in a lead or management role; proven track record executing end-to-end on large, complex products in ambiguous environments; front-end prototyping skills (HTML/CSS/JS); experience using AI tools like Claude Code in your design practice; excellent collaboration and communication skills.
