OpenAI is seeking a Product Design Leader to lead design strategy and execution for growth experiences across Codex and ChatGPT, focusing on B2B adoption and value realization for startups, small businesses, and growing teams. You will lead a small team of 2–5+ product designers, setting a high bar for craft, ownership, and performance while remaining hands-on with select high-impact projects. This is a player-coach role that balances team development with direct design contribution. You'll mentor designers to strengthen their judgment, confidence, and influence through clear feedback, while fostering a culture of rapid iteration and continuous learning. Key responsibilities include designing experiences across the full user journey—discovery, onboarding, activation, engagement, collaboration, conversion, and retention. You'll partner closely with product, engineering, data science, research, and go-to-market teams to shape strategy and drive execution. You'll use quantitative data, experimentation, and qualitative research to identify opportunities and validate outcomes, while translating complex AI capabilities into intuitive, approachable experiences for users with varying technical expertise. You'll help define what AI-native growth experiences should look, feel, and behave like, moving fluidly between long-term product vision and fast, iterative execution. This role requires strong product judgment, the ability to turn ambiguous problems into clear vision and actionable direction, and exceptional communication skills to align teams around compelling product narratives. Ideal candidates have a portfolio demonstrating exceptional product thinking, interaction design, and visual craft across complex, shipped products. You should be comfortable with data and experimentation, fluent in using AI as a creative and exploratory tool, and excited to rethink established patterns and invent AI-native interactions. Direct experience in growth design, developer products, or people management is welcome but not required. The role is based in San Francisco HQ with relocation assistance available.
