Checkr is a data platform powering safe and fair decisions, trusted by over 140,000 companies including Uber, Airbnb, DoorDash, and Anthropic. The company is recognized on the Forbes Cloud 100 2025 list and is a Y Combinator 2024 Breakthrough Company.
As a Process Design Specialist, you will assess how Checkr's operations processes work today and identify where they break down or fall short. Using established process mapping methods, you'll design improvements that replace inefficient workflows. You'll translate customer experiences into concrete, standardized improvements to support flows, with guidance from your manager and senior team members on complex decisions.
You are a systems thinker who can evaluate a process end-to-end and pinpoint failure points and scaling bottlenecks. You bring structure to ambiguity by designing fundamentally better processes, not just cleaner versions of existing ones. You document findings clearly through process maps, SOPs, and runbooks, and leverage current tools including AI to accelerate discovery and documentation while maintaining rigor.
Key responsibilities include: assessing existing operations and support processes to identify gaps and inefficiencies; translating customer experiences into mapped improvements; creating current-state and future-state process documentation using standard methodologies; supporting intake processes for improvement requests; facilitating working sessions with subject matter experts; partnering with Quality, Training, Operations Insights, and Program Management teams; identifying automation and AI-assisted workflow opportunities; tracking initiatives from assessment through adoption; measuring changes against baselines; and collaborating cross-functionally on process adoption.
The role reports to the Senior Manager, Operations Knowledge Systems & Process Design and requires periodic travel (<10%) to Checkr's San Francisco, Denver, and Santiago offices. You will work from the Nashville office 3+ days per week.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 3+ years of experience in process improvement, business process design, or operations analysis, ideally in a support or operations environment
- Hands-on experience with process mapping methodologies (process flow diagrams, swimlane diagrams, RACI matrices)
- Experience assessing current-state processes using structured methodologies and identifying breakdown points
- Experience translating unstructured or tribal knowledge into clear, standardized documentation (SOPs, runbooks, intake forms)
- Comfort working within support and knowledge systems (Zendesk, Salesforce, Confluence, or similar)
- Familiarity using AI tools to accelerate process documentation, gap analysis, or workflow audits, with judgment on where human review is required
- Strong facilitation skills and experience running cross-functional working sessions
- Excellent written communication skills; able to produce documentation clear to technical and non-technical audiences
- Experience quantifying process costs in time, volume, or rework before and after changes using existing dashboards and reports; strong spreadsheet skills including pivot tables and lookups (SQL not required)
- Experience defining and tracking success metrics for process changes, and recognizing when a metric improved but the underlying problem persists
- Preferred: experience improving support operations workflows in high-volume, customer-facing environments
- Preferred: Lean Six Sigma, BPM certification, or equivalent formal process improvement training
- A-player mindset with strong bias for action: raises the bar, moves with urgency, stays resilient through ambiguity, takes ownership to deliver meaningful outcomes
