Zocdoc is a healthcare marketplace that empowers patients to find and book in-person or virtual care across all 50 states, 200+ specialties, and 12,000+ insurance plans. As Principal UX Researcher, you will own the research strategy for one of Zocdoc's two core user groups: patients searching for care or practices delivering it. You will report to the Director of Research and partner with Product, Design, Brand, Marketing, and Data Science leadership to shape product strategy and drive business objectives. Your work spans three connected areas: 1. Define who we're building for and what they're trying to accomplish. You'll use mixed-methods research to map jobs, needs, and mindsets of users, helping product, marketing, and sales teams understand which needs matter most and how they differ across segments. 2. Shape high-ambiguity problem spaces with qualitative and quantitative evidence. You'll lead research for zero-to-one opportunities with limited precedent, helping teams define problems, test assumptions, evaluate concepts at scale, and decide what's worth building before roadmaps harden. 3. Measure the user experience. Partner with Data Science to define user-centered metrics, stand up survey programs, and track them over time to understand how well products meet user needs. Your day-to-day includes owning the research agenda for your audience, scoping and executing complex multi-phase studies from strategy through launch and iteration, designing and fielding quantitative research (needs sizing, concept testing, tracking), combining behavioral data with qualitative insights, evolving measurement programs (tracking surveys, benchmarking, longitudinal studies, continuous discovery), packaging insights into memorable frameworks for diverse audiences, and partnering with Marketing, Brand, and Sales to shape positioning and go-to-market strategy. You're motivated by being a positive change agent in healthcare, energized by working across qual and quant methodologies, experienced in cross-functional learning agendas with marketing and data science, driven to advocate for human-centered constructs in data-driven organizations, comfortable with full research domain ownership, and interested in experimenting with AI tools and building sustainable agentic infrastructure.
