Lambda is an AI cloud infrastructure company serving tens of thousands of customers from AI researchers to enterprises and hyperscalers. The Principal Product Manager for Console owns the unified customer-facing console surface across Lambda's entire product portfolio—On-Demand GPU Instances, reserved capacity, 1-Click Clusters, bare metal, storage, networking, Managed Kubernetes, billing, and support. This role is responsible for holding the console as a single, cohesive product despite being built by multiple service teams. You will establish and maintain one navigation model, one identity and permissions story, one set of interaction patterns, and one vocabulary across all services. The challenge is serving three distinct user personas simultaneously: ML researchers who need GPUs in minutes without learning cloud vocabulary, infrastructure engineers who live in APIs and CLIs and need exact console-API alignment, and platform engineers building services on top of Lambda who need clear visibility and control boundaries. Key responsibilities include: owning the complete product definition and sequencing work; defining and enforcing design patterns, navigation standards, resource naming conventions, and error handling that all service teams adopt; ensuring the console, API, CLI, and infrastructure-as-code remain synchronized; optimizing the first-hour experience from signup to first workload while maintaining expert-level features like bulk actions, filtering, and spend visibility; gathering customer insights from support tickets, escalations, and session data to identify real problems; writing precise requirements and acceptance criteria for engineering and design teams; partnering with service-area product managers to ensure launches integrate seamlessly; establishing launch criteria covering documentation, in-product guidance, support readiness, and accessibility; and measuring success through completion rates, time-to-first-result, and support load rather than opinion. The role requires establishing foundational standards that do not yet exist, building the design and front-end engineering partnerships to maintain them, and making contested tradeoffs stick through clear documentation and continued ownership. You will work cross-functionally without relying on authority, using evidence and research to settle disagreements. REQUIREMENTS: - 10+ years of product management experience, including ownership of a customer-facing console, dashboard, or developer surface for a cloud, infrastructure, or developer platform - Demonstrated success shipping interaction patterns, design systems, or surface standards that teams adopted and maintained independently - Experience consolidating separately built product surfaces into a unified product, with clear rationale for what was consolidated and what was left alone - Deep understanding of cloud infrastructure (identity, permissions, quotas, regions, capacity, telemetry, billing) sufficient to reason with engineers about what should be exposed to customers - Strong expertise in access control models for organizations, teams, projects, roles, and API keys, with ability to design their presentation - Ability to define iterative plans moving organizations from current state to desired outcome - Proven success making one product serve both first-time users and daily operators without creating two separate products - Experience using research and instrumentation to resolve UX disagreements and bringing evidence to opinionated rooms - Ability to translate ambiguous customer, technical, and commercial inputs into executable product definitions - Strong communication and writing skills; ability to say no clearly and make decisions easier for diverse stakeholders NICE TO HAVE: - Experience with ML or data platform surfaces (notebooks, training jobs, model endpoints, experiment tracking) - Experience with self-serve funnels from signup to first paid usage, including conversion and activation - Partnership experience with front-end platform teams on component libraries, design tokens, or shared application shells - Ownership of documentation or in-product guidance as integral product work - Familiarity with accessibility standards and infrastructure product usability - Experience with consoles serving both human and automated callers
