Self Financial is a venture-backed fintech company on a mission to increase economic inclusion and financial resilience by helping people build credit and savings. The company serves 100+ million Americans with no or low credit, challenging the status quo of the credit industry through accessible tools and products.
You will own the Credit Building vertical's product strategy as a principal-level individual contributor. This is a company-level ownership role where you partner directly with executive leadership to shape the strategic direction of Self's flagship credit-building product over the next several years. Your decisions ripple across engineering, risk, compliance, and go-to-market functions.
Key responsibilities include: owning the Credit Building vertical's product strategy and P&L; translating strategy into prioritized roadmaps and clear engineering requirements; mentoring and multiplying the effectiveness of other PMs across the department; using quantitative and qualitative data (A/B testing, SQL, usability studies, surveys) to form and test hypotheses; building cross-functional alignment with Risk, Compliance, Engineering, Design, Analytics, Marketing, and Operations through influence; and defining how AI-assisted workflows get adopted across the product organization.
You will operate independently, diagnosing problems, sizing opportunities, and making high-stakes calls without needing guidance. You set the bar for product craft and process across the PM organization. You're fluent in regulated environments, bring a point of view on how AI reshapes modern PM workflows, and build trust and alignment company-wide even without formal authority.
Required: 10+ years as a Product Manager with a track record of owning strategy for a core product with company-level business impact (ideally B2C); demonstrated ability to build cross-functional alignment and drive outcomes at the executive level; fluency between strategic and detailed product questions; experience in regulated or compliance-heavy environments (fintech, banking, healthcare, insurance, payments); fluency with AI tools as part of modern PM workflow; strong analytical skills including SQL competence and hands-on data analysis experience. Credit/lending experience is a plus but not required.
