Funding Circle is a fintech platform that uses data-driven technology to provide small businesses with funding in minutes rather than weeks. The company has evolved from a single loans product into a multi-product lending and spending platform, and is now a public company with the energy and autonomy of a startup.
You will lead the platform capabilities that power all of Funding Circle's products—the shared infrastructure that every team depends on. This includes customer data management, third-party integrations (credit agencies, open banking), identity and access controls, CRM systems, and the engineering platform itself. Your role reports to the Head of Engineering for Platform Capabilities.
Key responsibilities:
- Deeply understand internal customers across Risk, Operations, Sales, and Engineering teams, recognizing their competing priorities and aligning them toward a coherent platform strategy
- Set strategy and roadmap for platform capabilities including identity/access services and the engineering platform
- Own migrations and system transitions, deciding when to migrate and driving adoption across teams
- Partner with Architecture, Product Engineering, and product leads on Loans, FlexiPay, and Cards to ensure alignment
- Conduct regular discovery with cross-functional teams and manage change adoption
- Success is measured by whether dependent teams ship faster, solve problems independently, and complete migrations successfully
You will work in a hybrid model (3 days in London office) and join a high-performing team that values autonomy, ownership, and collaboration. Last year, businesses on the platform generated £7.2bn for the UK economy.
Requirements:
- Proven experience owning shared infrastructure or capabilities that other teams depend on, earned through adoption rather than mandate
- Technical depth sufficient to discuss trade-offs, interfaces, and migration costs with engineers, while knowing when to defer technical decisions
- Ability to influence Risk, Operations, or Sales teams without direct authority; proactive in identifying their problems
- AI-native mindset with hands-on experience building with Claude Code, Codex, or similar tools
- Strong writing and presentation skills to align Architecture, Engineering, and Product leadership
- Experience in fintech or other regulated businesses with operational complexity
- Track record running system migrations and managing adoption
- Deep understanding of regulated business constraints; treat auditability and data protection as design requirements, not post-hoc reviews
