Salary: CAD 168,000 - 231,000 / annual
Okta is seeking a Principal Product Designer – UI Platform to serve as a foundational design lead for the company's global user experience infrastructure. This is a high-impact individual contributor role within the Product Platform group, where you will act as a resident expert and strategic thought partner shaping horizontal design patterns, design architecture, localization/globalization frameworks, and accessibility standards (WCAG) that power Okta's Workforce Identity products.
You will partner directly with cross-functional UI Platform leads to drive platform-level initiatives, harmonizing user experience (UX) and developer experience (DevEx) across engineering and product organizations. You will also collaborate closely with the Design Systems team, acting as a bridge between the system and feature teams applying it to products.
Key responsibilities include:
- UI & System Leadership: Serve as a UI platform and design system expert, identifying, creating, documenting, and evangelizing scalable, accessible (WCAG), and localized patterns to resolve dependencies across products.
- Strategic Partnership: Partner with cross-functional UI Platform leads to align vision with design strategy, co-owning the roadmap to balance features, tech debt, quality, and adoption.
- Raise the Craft: Enable R&D teams through clear alignment and documentation. Improve org-wide processes and mentor designers to promote craft excellence, candid feedback, and growth.
- Data-Informed Decision Making: Leverage data and AI insights to inform clear, platform-level design decisions and streamline governance.
You will hold the quality bar when speed is pushing everything toward "fine," serving as the voice of the customer and responsible for strong systems thinking, taste, quality, and experience.
Requirements:
- Degree in a related field or relevant work experience as a Product Designer
- 10+ years of experience as a Product Designer
- Proficient in Figma, Miro, Balsamiq, and/or similar design tools
- Knowledge of HTML/CSS/JavaScript
- Proficiency in AI workflows and how to apply them to the product design process
- Passion for helping customers solve real problems and upholding design UX principles
- Systems-thinking lens with ability to identify elegant, extensible solutions
- Excellent craft with ability to dive into details and provide design feedback and mentorship
- Learning mindset, able to manage ambiguity with openness and curiosity
- Strong communication skills; ability to distill complex concepts into simple narratives
- Portfolio demonstrating work on complex, challenging projects across all aspects of design (conceptual, interaction, information architecture, visual design) with preference for large-scale enterprise and SaaS products
- Experience working on and leading large, horizontal scopes and groups
