Halter is a climate-tech company enabling farmers and graziers to run productive, sustainable operations using solar-powered smart collars and software. The company is backed by tier-1 investors including Founders Fund, Bessemer Venture Partners, and DCVC.
You will lead the design of a significant product area and establish design foundations across Halter's mobile and web platforms. This is a high-agency, high-impact role where you'll set the standard for craft and help define what Halter's product experience should feel like.
Key responsibilities include:
- Setting, owning, and advancing design foundations across mobile and web
- Establishing craft standards through principles, guidance, and worked examples that raise quality across teams
- Shaping technical architecture and system structure alongside engineers
- Treating the design system as a product with real customers, prioritizing based on actual user needs
- Providing clear guidance on pattern selection and rationale
- Translating field conditions into accessible, legible standards (target sizes, clarity, readability)
- Identifying reusable patterns across product surfaces and promoting them into documented foundations
- Mentoring designers and championing the system across product, engineering, and leadership
You'll spend time with farmers and ranchers in the field, understanding real-world constraints. The role requires designing for a living, dynamic environment where animals, pasture, and weather change by the minute—turning complexity into something a farmer can read at a glance and act on with confidence.
Requirements: 8+ years designing digital products with significant design systems experience at scale. Exceptional visual craft across typography, layout, spacing, color, accessibility, interaction, and motion. Proven experience shipping design systems with engineers, including knowledge of tokens, component libraries, and Figma-to-code workflows. Portfolio demonstrating both foundational systems work and high-craft experiences. Strong coaching and alignment-building skills.
Benefits include health insurance, 6 months paid parental leave (primary caregiver), 4 weeks secondary caregiver leave, $1000 annual self-development budget, wellness leave, unlimited paid annual leave, and employee stock ownership plan.
