New Relic is seeking a Principal Product Designer to lead the design vision for the Infrastructure product, which helps engineers understand and operate cloud environments, Kubernetes, hosts, network performance, and databases. You will partner directly with VP- and SVP-level engineering and product leadership to shape a roadmap with measurable business impact, working across US and India teams to transform dense infrastructure telemetry into interfaces that remain usable during critical incidents.
The role emphasizes genuine curiosity about complex technical systems and a track record of building fluency in unfamiliar domains rather than treating technology as a black box. You will set design craft and system standards across the Infrastructure design team, mentor senior and mid-level designers, and serve as a visible design leader recognized across departments.
Key responsibilities include designing dashboards and visualizations for cloud, Kubernetes, host, network, and database telemetry; championing system coherence and fail-safe UX patterns for incident response and root-cause investigation; leading product vision creation with clear business impact; building deep technical fluency through direct engineer conversations and hands-on exploration; planning and running user research with SREs, platform engineers, and DevOps practitioners; partnering on AI-assisted diagnostics and anomaly detection; setting craft standards and mentoring designers; and driving large-scale cross-team design initiatives.
Required qualifications include 12+ years of professional product or UX design experience with a portfolio demonstrating complex, data-heavy B2B SaaS or enterprise work; demonstrated curiosity about technology with evidence of self-teaching unfamiliar technical domains; experience designing for technical personas (engineers, SREs, DevOps, platform engineers); real skill in user research that changes product direction; advanced Figma proficiency and experience building component-based design systems at scale; and solid grasp of WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards with ability to troubleshoot independently and mentor others.
