New Relic is seeking a Principal Product Designer to join the UX Platform team in Barcelona. This is the most senior individual design role across the UX Platform—the products engineers and customers rely on daily, plus the Design System that unifies them. You will partner closely with the Design Director as a trusted strategic partner, owning the most complex and ambiguous design problems end-to-end with full autonomy. The role centers on two critical challenges: designing AI-native experiences (interfaces that are non-deterministic, adapt to each use, and produce unpredictable outputs) and rethinking how design itself evolves in AI-first, spec-driven workflows. Key responsibilities include: - Owning complex design problems from framing through detailed execution with no oversight required - Designing coherent interfaces for AI-native experiences and establishing design principles for non-deterministic systems - Evolving design processes for AI-first workflows, acting as a multiplier for the team, and defining quality metrics beyond velocity - Setting documentation and traceability standards (clear specs, rationale, references) that teams and AI tools can build upon - Acting as a second senior design voice in Product and Engineering reviews, shaping strategic direction and holding quality standards across the platform - Strengthening connections between product design and the Design System; defining scalable systems and processes - Mentoring designers and raising the collective craft level across the team You bring extensive product design experience on complex software, a portfolio demonstrating depth in both product design and design systems, and a proven track record of owning ambiguous problems independently. You're pragmatic about AI—eager to experiment but discerning about where it genuinely adds value. You lead through craft and influence rather than authority, communicate clearly in writing and verbally, and document decisions thoroughly so others can build on them. Bonus experience includes designing observability, developer tools, data platforms, or complex B2B products; a technical background with knowledge of software architecture and data visualization; and hands-on experience with design systems at scale or spec-driven workflows.
