Via is a global leader in smart transportation technology, transforming how people move through cities and communities. The company's Transit Operations platform powers how transit agencies manage and operate their services daily.
You'll join as Principal Product Designer, a senior individual contributor role leading design for complex, strategic areas of the Transit Operations product. This role focuses on deeply interconnected workflows, information-dense systems, and products used for hours daily by dispatchers and transit operators to make critical decisions impacting riders and drivers.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead design for complex operational areas, setting direction across interconnected workflows and creating coherent, scalable experiences
- Transform complex operational workflows, business requirements, and technical constraints into clear, intuitive, purposeful experiences
- Partner closely with Product and Engineering to frame problems, explore possibilities, and drive high-quality product decisions
- Develop deep understanding of users and communities served, designing experiences tightly aligned with their needs
- Use research, data, experimentation, and customer feedback to validate decisions and continuously improve the product
- Proactively identify opportunities and create momentum in ambiguous problem spaces
- Raise quality standards for Transit Operations and influence the broader Design organization through your work and collaboration
- Help shape Via's product design future by exploring new thinking, creation, and validation approaches, including AI integration
You bring extensive experience designing and shipping complex digital products and platforms, with a portfolio demonstrating exceptional product thinking and craft. You navigate ambiguity skillfully, lead complex initiatives end-to-end, and maintain a high bar for quality. Strong communication and storytelling abilities allow you to influence senior stakeholders. You operate with high autonomy and ownership, comfortable defining paths forward when solutions aren't fully formed. You're a strong collaborator who builds alignment across functions using clear communication and thoughtful critique. You're creative, curious, and passionate about improving transportation for communities worldwide.
