Atom Computing is building quantum computers using arrays of optically trapped neutral atoms to enable unprecedented computational breakthroughs. We are seeking a Principal Platform Engineer to design and operate the systems powering our quantum computing and research workflows. In this role, you will architect infrastructure spanning on-premises lab environments and cloud platforms, making critical trade-off decisions across reliability, security, scalability, and cost. You will work at the intersection of quantum hardware, control systems, and software, requiring deep expertise in infrastructure and platform engineering combined with strong systems thinking. Key responsibilities include: - Designing and building platform infrastructure to support quantum computing research and operations - Collaborating with software, hardware, and control systems teams to integrate platform capabilities - Navigating complex technical design problems and architectural decisions - Ensuring reliability, security, and cost-efficiency across hybrid on-prem and cloud environments - Driving technical strategy for platform systems as the company scales This is a principal-level individual contributor role requiring someone who can think strategically about systems architecture while also diving deep into implementation details. You will have significant influence over technical direction and mentorship opportunities within the engineering organization. The role requires in-office presence in Boulder, CO at least 3 days per week to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
