Swarmer develops autonomous drone software enabling large coordinated teams to operate without pilots. The company became the first Ukrainian defense startup to go public on NASDAQ in March 2026 following a $15M Series A. As Principal Integration Engineer, you will own the hardware composition, connectivity, and integration of hardware with software solutions for drone autonomy systems. Key responsibilities include designing and developing hardware architectures for drone systems with component selection and system-level integration planning. You'll develop and optimize embedded software for companion computers, microcontrollers, and flight controllers, ensuring efficient resource utilization and real-time performance. You'll build and test hardware prototypes, conduct performance evaluations, and iterate designs to meet specifications and reliability standards. You'll collaborate with manufacturing teams to streamline production, develop assembly procedures, and ensure quality control. Working directly with hardware vendors and suppliers, you'll specify requirements, evaluate components, and oversee third-party hardware integration. A critical aspect is bridging hardware capabilities with software requirements, ensuring seamless communication between embedded systems and higher-level autonomy software. You'll create detailed technical specifications, hardware design documents, and integration guides. Implement rigorous testing protocols for hardware reliability, environmental durability, and compliance with industry standards. Evaluate long-term impact of technical decisions on product roadmap, proactively identify architectural trade-offs, and contribute to technical direction. Required expertise includes hands-on embedded development with microcontrollers and embedded Linux. Deep UAV technology knowledge is essential—flight controllers, communication protocols (MAVLink), autopilots (ArduPilot/PX4). Expert-level proficiency in networking (OSI layers, firewalls, routing), Linux, shell scripting, Docker, Python, and databases (SQL/NoSQL). C/C++ and IoT communication protocols are advantageous; RF engineering knowledge is a plus. Familiarity with Raspberry Pi and flight controllers (Matek, OrangeCube) required. Proven track record executing complex hardware-software system integrations. Strong communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences. System-level thinking across full stack architecture. Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
